What to do BEFORE you buy that car!

If you have just moved to a new state, it is more important that you thoroughly investigate any used vehicle because although the car or truck you're looking at may be as shiny as a new penny, it may also have a fraudulent title, expired registration and expired safety check, plus unpaid parking and other more serious citations, which come with the vehicle. Although you are not the current owner, the State still wants to collect fines for expired registration and parking tickets.

This is how it is done....

You innocently buy a car from a person who represents that they are the owner. In reality, the seller actually purchased the vehicle from someone else and did not transfer ownership to himself. The previous owner did not send the State a transfer notice which alerts the State to the fact that the vehicle was sold. Therefore, the police department may continually ticket the car for expired registration, expired safety inspection sticker etc. There are additional fines such as failure to transfer, transferring after 30 days and the most important fact of all is that the State can place a flag in the computer system which will prevent you from obtaining a Certificate of Ownership until all tickets are paid, regardless of who they actually belong to. Other things to look out for include, vehicles that have been in an accident or are salvaged. The bottom line is this...Call us before your spend your money.
